Das neue Album “Out Of My Mind” des Songschreibers King Charles passt so perfekt in die aktuelle Situation rundum Corona: unvorstellbar, komplett außerhalb jeglicher Vorstellungskraft.

I always remember your earlier songs with an incredibly positive extravagance. Where would you see yourself now with the release and statement of your new album there? Still in the corner of extravagance?

King Charles: I think the experience of listening to music can be as deep as you’re willing to go. I like there being extravagance in my songwriting and productions, I always have and this can be felt on the surface sounds or be more buried within the different layers of the music. This is a different sounding record to the last two and has a different appearance telling a different tale which is a a kind of self-portrait.

You said that you love the simplicity and snappiness of the songwriting for pop songs. How do you manage that this simplicity does not end in a banality like it often happens in pop productions?

King Charles: What I like is the cleanliness of some of these productions. The pop world can be pretty full on as a genre. There’s a lot going on so when the tracks are super tight, crystal clean melodies, efficient production it’s much easier for me to digest though everyone has their own tastes.

What role do you hope your release will play in this difficult time of social distancing, corona virus etc.?

King Charles: It feels like a bit of an adventure into the unknown. A lot of people I know say they have never spent so much time alone. Music can be a wonderful companion in times of solitude or loneliness. Hopefully the record will land as we are emerging from this crisis and will be heard as people are celebrating the emancipation from their isolation and cherishing their recovered freedom which I feel is allegorical of the journey and making of this album.
