Besonders gut gefällt mir dabei „Can’t Help It“.

Your EP deals, among other things, with the exhausting impressions of an introvert in an overloaded world. Which feeling prevails when you enter such an overloaded world as an introvert?

Kefeider: „When I wrote the lead track «Without You» I was actually writing about a friend of mine who is a true introvert, but at some point I realized the song was actually about myself and that I had become more and more a homebody. I guess I’m both introvert and extrovert, but the need to be alone and do what the heck I want becomes much stronger when there is a lot of stuff on the agenda. And it is easy to feel misunderstood which leads to frustration and sometimes even anger.“

How difficult is it to sort out your emotions?

Kefeider: „When I’m feeling overwhelmed or frustrated I usually head for the studio just to write about it. Other times I go for a run while listening to TOOL, it always works.“

I think you can clearly hear this introversion. What stylistic elements did you use for this?

Kefeider: „I really felt like recording the vocals all by myself, in a place where I felt really safe and comfortable, without anyone listening to what I had to say. Haha, now everyone can hear what I had to say. So I brought a microphone home from the studio and recorded everything at home in the guest bedroom at night, trying not to wake the neighbors.“

You say yourself that the lyrics in the new songs are the most direct you’ve ever written. How does direct text express itself to you? Were there role models from other artists who also implemented this well?

Kefeider: „Usually, I improvise lyrics while playing guitar and record it on my mobile. If I still like the idea a few days later, I usually record a demo to test out the idea. Then I usually build on one or two of the improvised lines. And it always makes sense, because then I see that the improvised lyrics have taken something from a TV series I have seen, a book I have read, or something someone has said that resonates with me. When I wrote songs for „Touché“ I listened a lot to Connan Mockasin and I think you can hear that especially on the song „Can’t help it“. Right now I read a lot of poetry, especially from the Norwegian poet Triztan Vindtorn.“

The EP has been out since the end of May. How has the response been so far and how do you take it up for your future songwriting?

Kefeider: „The response has been good, especially on the song „Without you“. It seems that people need something that is a bit up-tempo at the moment, I guess. I have just finished a new album with producer Øyvind Blomstrøm from Orions Belte, where he and I have played and recorded all the instruments ourselves. I always try to develop as a songwriter, and this time I have written more obscure and less direct lyrics than on „Touché“. Can’t wait to release more music soon!“
