Your new album is about finding yourself. What can you give us as a listener when we are dealing with ourselves for the first time in our lives? What do we have to pay attention to?

Simen Lingroth: For me the album title, Looking for the spark like it’s just around the corner, refers to being trapped in the future. As if you’re finding yourself in a daydream, and realizing that you’re forgetting to pay attention to what’s now. This also makes me think about the carrot-and-stick metaphor: as if what we long for is just around the corner, but still way out of reach. The album consists of 10 songs, and tells a story in which the main character embarks on a journey in search for «the spark». I think this is a very relatable scenario. In the end we are all longing for something! In my opinion we all have to get out of our heads, and start appreciating what’s now.

Your songs are all connected and tell a story. How important was it to you during production that there was this common thread and what should it do for the listeners?

Simen Lingroth: During production we worked specifically to merge the music and the story. This also allowed us to let the songs differ from one another in terms of arrangements and character. The storyline was the most important part of the album. Therefore some of the songs became electro-rock tracks, while others are played on an acoustic guitar! I worked together with NY writer Celia Pain and the Norwegian illustrator LOBOTOM at this production. This resulted in text, music and drawings. I really hope the listeners want to dive into this modern fairy tale world, and that they will appreciate that this is more of a concept than songs randomly put together.

What could or may be the most wonderful moment in the search for your own self?

Simen Lingroth: This is a very big question! I’m very inspired by Eckhart Tolle, and I believe the answer to this question is to start living in the now. Stop longing for what’s to come, and listen to the bird song!
