Heute stellen wir dir das neue Album „It’s Dangerous To Go Alone! Take This.“ von Boy Omega vor. Hinter dem Projekt steckt der Musiker Martin Henrik Hasselgren und er liefert mit der Platte neue Energie und Kreativität für sich selbst. Sechs Jahre ist der letzte Release von ihm her und debütiert hatte er im Jahr 2004. Boy Omega vereint elektronische Beats mit akustischen Elementen. Dabei loopt er seine Arrangements, fügt Sounds von alten Tonbändern ein, Game Boy Musik taucht auf und dann ist da auch ein Orchester. Alles durchmischt und wirkt, wie, wenn es nicht zusammen passt. Aber wenn man die neuen Songs hört, dann fügt sich alles.

Er erzählt auf sehr persönliche Art und Weise seine Geschichte. Zum Beispiel bei „Monkey“ oder „Daniel“. Durch die persönliche Herangehensweise und wenn man weiß, dass Boy Omega hier über sich erzählt, fühlt man sich direkt mit seiner Musik verbunden. Man denkt sich rein, taucht ab und grübelt.

Seit er 2003 begann, unter dem Namen Boy Omega Songs zu schreiben, hat Hasselgren ein beeindruckendes, umfangreiches Werk veröffentlicht; darunter sieben Alben, zwei Compilations mit unveröffentlichten Tracks, vier EPs und zahlreiche Singles. Das Album wird von dem deutschen Label Riptide Recordings und dem japanischen Label Moorworks veröffentlicht. Wir sprechen jetzt mit ihm über das neue Werk und dabei hat Boy Omega einiges zu erzählen.

„It’s Dangerous To Go Alone! Take This.” is your eighth album. Where would you classify the record between routine, everyday rhythm and escape from everyday life?

Boy Omega: „I would place it somewhere over the rainbow and down in the gutter.“

Can you please describe the flow and dynamic of your new album?

Boy Omega: „I can however say this… I’ve always been a fan of dynamics and I like albums that feel more like a movie or a journey as opposed to a bunch of songs piled after one another. Sadly it seems hard these days to get people to listen to a full album from start to finish.“

Under the current circumstances, it can quickly become a minor matter when artists release new albums. What contribution can and must music make in these difficult times for many people? And where do you see yourself
positioned there with your new album?

Boy Omega: „I believe that no matter what is happening around the world we as human beings will always have the need for art, be it a painting, a poem, a movie or a song. Some
people might get their kicks from Fugazi or Pussy Riot while others get their kicks
from Aqua or AC/DC and that’s totally fine. Freedom of ears.“
