Ganz frisch und brandneu sozusagen ist Juju Bell noch. Denn gerade mal seit 2014 ist die Dänin aus Kopenhagen musikalisch unter diesem Soloprojektnamen aktiv. Wirklich viel erfahren wir nicht über sie. Es gibt dort nur diese drei Tracks von ihr auf ihrer Soundcloud-Seite. Aber so verläuft unsere Suche nach mehr Informationen über sie eher im Sand.

JuJu Bell braucht an sich nicht viel. Ihre wirklich helle und sanfte Stimme und dann ein paar elektronische Drums und ein Synthesizer. Ihre Stimme passt da perfekt zu ihrem Sound, den wir mal eben als klassischen Electronica-Pop bezeichnen würden. Hören wir uns durch ihre EP fällt uns „Santiago“ auf, der durch seine mantraartige Wiederholungen „Santiago, Santiago, Santiago“ schnell ins Ohr geht.

JuJu Bell braucht wirklich nicht viel um uns zu begeistern. Auch ihr dritter Track „City Grave“ gefällt uns nach kurzer Zeit schon richtig gut. Klar, ist der Refrain nicht allzu abwechslungsreich. Aber das ist ja gerade Sinn und Zweck einer Hook nicht wahr? Wir finden, das macht JuJu Bell ganz großartig und sind mal gespannt wohin die Reise der noch sehr unbekannten Dänin hinführen wird.

Wir glauben schon, dass es hierzulande genügend Hörer geben könnte, die auch wie wir auf die Musik von JuJu Bell stehen. Deshalb haben wir uns gedacht, wir stellen Euch JuJu Bell in einem Interview etwas näher vor:
Soundkartell: In three sentences: Where are you from and how did it all start?
Juju Bell: „I’m from a small (boring but beautiful) town on the west coast of Denmark. I’m from a family of musicians and music was always a natural and very important part of my life. I have been writing songs, singing and playing since I was a child, and music has always been a way to express myself. JUJU BELL is a product of this.“
Soundkartell: In three sentences: Where are you from and how did it all start?
Juju Bell: I’m from a small (boring but beautiful) town on the west coast of Denmark. I’m from a family of musicians and music was always a natural and very important part of my life. I have been writing songs, singing and playing since I was a child, and music has always been a way to express myself. JUJU BELL is a product of this.
Soundkartell: What three things characterize your music the most?
Juju Bell: „Emotion. Expression. Devotion.“
Soundkartell: I think your music has something very emotional. Just name and explain two emotional situations.
Juju Bell: „My debut EP was written during a very challenging time in my life. “City Grave” describes being in a somewhat depressed state of mind. It’s about not being able to suppress the overwhelming feeling of desperation and hopelessness. “Santiago” on the other hand expresses the joy of once again seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.“
Soundkartell: What are you’re wishes for this year?
Juju Bell: „I hope to finish my first full-length record. I also hope to play as many live concerts as possible. Live is where the music truly comes to life.“
Soundkartell: I know a lot of artists from denmark. And there are several whos lyrics are in danish. For me this is a reason why they can’t get more „famous“ in Germany. But in another way danish or other scandinavian lyrics have something authentic. Did you bother about that?
Juju Bell: „Hmm – writing in English was not a conscious choice. The songs for JUJU BELL just came to me this way. I also write in Danish sometimes… I think when I comes to songwriting it’s important not to try to control the process too much. You have to just give in to the feeling of letting the music decide the outcome…“
Soundkartell: What is a really important component in your life that gives you the impulse to create new things?
Juju Bell: „The need to express myself through music.“
Soundkartell: For us it is very annoying to ask musicians what a special song is about. Please give us one expressive reason why it do not need always a reason to make music or wrote a song.
Juju Bell: „A song can be many things. An expression of a certain emotion or a reflection on something important to you. It can also be just a silly idea or a funky groove that pups up in your head and makes you want to dance…“
Soundkartell: What is the reason in your mind that nearly every musician want to attach a song a special value?
Juju Bell: „Music means a lot to the musicians that create it. Maybe it’s the urge to share the music’s meaning with the people around you.“
Soundkartell: We are always looking for new music. What are your three personal new music tips?
Juju Bell: „Theshipwhosang: Brand new instrumental/psychedelic-rock. Emotional and beautiful.
