Das Soundkartell stellt Euch im Reeperbahn Festival Special den Luxemburger Musiker EDSUN vor.
Am Freitagabend um 20.00 Uhr im Kaiserkeller wird im Rahmen der Luxemburg-Night des Reeperbahn Festivals der Futur R&B Musiker EDSUN seine Songs performen. Ein aufregendes Projekt, das ihr unbedingt auf dem Schirm haben müsst. Deshalb stellen wir Euch den Musiker hier im Interview vor.
EDSUN, could you please shortly introduce yourself?
Hi, thanks for the interview. I’m a singer, dancer and performer from Luxembourg and I go by the name of EDSUN. I’ve been told that I create alternative RnB music, but only the music can speak for itself.
People say that your musical style is unique to the Luxembourgish music scene: Sounds like you are under pressure to perform and that you have to deliver with your songs…
Sure, well I’m just grateful to be able to contribute to the musical diversity in Luxembourg. I’m learning everyday and try not to think to much of it as a pressure, I just want to make music and perform, that’s my job.
Your music seems to be very art. Would you agree that with your music videos for “No Flashing Lights” and “No Compliments” the arty audio-visual element seems to be a very important component in your music to express yourself?
Definitely. The music videos allow me to extend the music and express something that maybe I didn’t say in the song but which actually goes hand in hand with it. It gives me the chance to visit different areas or details of the song and make something else or slightly different out of it.
What role does Darkness and gloominess play in your music?
It’s a part of who I am and I think it’s a part of who we all are somewhere and it happened to come out musically at that specific time in my life. I keep a lot to myself and the songs allow me to bring some mystery to live and to speak. It also gives me the opportunity to get to know myself at my weakest but also to go inside myself and find calmness, air and space. But I believe in change and I don’t think that we as humans stay the same all the time so I definitely believe that my music won’t stay the same either.

In which way you see your music as a real alternative of the R&B and Soul music which is flooding the music scene and market?
That is a tough question. I think my songs will come with unconventional stories which will need time to be told. I try to sonicly create what I love but to be honest I don’t even know what a real alternative to R&B is. I just hope that my art can be something that a bunch of people can find themselves in. People who are often forgotten and who don’t hear and see themselves in the conventional boxes.
You’ve played Sonic Visons Festival in Luxembourg London (Stratford circus) and in Paris (Silencio) this year. What are your expectations playing Reeperbahn Festival and your showcase during the Luxembourg Night?
I’m just thankful to be able to play at this year’s Reeperbahn festival. I want to be in the moment and share my art with everyone. Performing is what I love so I’m really glad to do so. I’m happy to play at the Luxembourg Night as well, I have performed at that venue once and I love the atmosphere.
What are your wishes for the next and last couple of months this year?
At this point I’m just excited to release new music this year. But I just wish to continue learning more everyday, to grow everyday and to be a better version of myself everyday. I know that the universe has a plan for me.
